Josh
I have spent the majority of my time playing in alternative rock bands, but always have had a deep folk heart. Inspired by the likes of Gordon Lightfoot, Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, and Shane McGowen I put down the electric guitar (most of the time) and I'm loving the change of direction.
I started out playing music when I was young and cut my teeth on many styles of music, mainly blues, rock, metal, and alternative, but I never joined a band till I turned 19. I played in a few local bands around Portland, but things really took off when I joined Pharrah Phosphate. From there I immersed myself in the local music scene, played in just about every venue in the Portland area and opened for a few of the notable bands. But all things have their end, and in 2006 we went our separate ways. Lightning rarely strikes twice, and I made a few half hearted attempts at forming another band, but I just didn't feel it then, so I backed away from music for a while.
Flash forward 3 years and I saw Jason play at a restaurant in Scappoose, OR that's no longer there (too bad, the food was good). I'd known him for sometime, and have been friends with him and his family for quite awhile so I went out to give my support. After the show he asked if I would like to play guitar with him sometime. I'd played with him before a couple times in younger days, and I was itching to play again, so we met up soon after that. He asked if I wanted to play Irish and Scottish folk songs when I got there. He had played a few Irish songs when I saw him, plus I was listening to the Pogues, so I was more then happy to do that. I started listening to The Dubliners and soon after that they became my new favorite band. Next week Jereb joined in and it all clicked right away.
Adding Dave to the band was a personal high point for me, since we had played in Pharrah Phosphate together, and it was nice to be back together again. Adding Tatijanna expanded the bands sound and gave it a more authentic folk feel. With Dan in the band now and his knowledge, skills on anything with keys or strings, and friendship, it feels complete. We are after all friends first, a band second.
I felt fortunate being in one really good band in my lifetime, but to now be in second one is just indescribable.
On an unrelated note I'm pretty good with a bow staff.
